Is MCOL secure?

Security is of paramount importance to Her Majesty's Court Service. Because some of the information you provide can be of a sensitive nature, MCOL provides security through unique user ID and passwords. The site also has security protection and encrypts the data that passes over the Internet. However, you should note that any emails you send or receive cannot be regarded as secure.

You will need to register with MCOL before you can issue a claim online. By registering, you will be accepting Her Majesty's Court Service Privacy Policy.

Once you have registered, you will be asked to choose a user ID and password. Both your ID and password must be no less than 8 and no more than 12 characters long and be a combination of letters and numbers, in an order you are most likely to remember. Please note, User names and passwords are case sensitive, so you will need to ensure you make a careful note of them for future reference.

MCOL also asks you to select a security question and provide an answer to it when you are registering. The reason for this is in case you forget your password. The system will email you your password, providing you answer the security question correctly. If you forget your user ID, you will be barred from accessing any claim records under that ID, online. In these circumstances, your User ID is irretrievable and you will need to contact the helpdesk for advice on how to proceed with your claim
